Entergy Texas opens $1.6 billion power plant as customers face a new charge on their bills | Houston Chronicle

Entergy Texas is betting on a massive new natural gas plant in Beaumont to help meet the need for reliable power. But it comes with a cost to both the company and consumers. The plant will be located in an area of the state outside of ERCOT, served by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator.

The electric utility also sent a notice to customers that they would see a “new energy charge” on their bill tied to the cost of building the plant. The size of the charge will depend on how much electricity customers use and will be offset by the efficiency provided by the new plant, according to Entergy.
