What to Watch for in ERCOT's Board Meeting Today

Interconnecting ERCOT to neighboring grids; update on ERCOT transmission; CPS Energy & ERCOT's ongoing process to close 1960s gas plants; ancillary services' costs; and the latest in solar and storage

The ERCOT Board is meeting today. Their meeting comes on the heels of six straight days of batteries producing over 3,300 megawatts of power; six of the top seven spots on the storage record page, including the #1 spot of over 4,000 megawatts, are from this month. 

And yet ERCOT still wants to exclude battery storage from the rollout of the new Dispatchable Reliability Reserve Service (DRRS).

Here’s what to look for at today’s meeting:

• ERCOT CEO Pablo Vegas to push back against misinformation on interconnecting the Texas grid with neighboring grids;

• ERCOT Staff will also present options for Extra High Voltage transmission;

• Solar and storage continue their exponential growth;

• 2024 was the sixth hottest summer in Texas history, according to ERCOT; yet power prices and ancillary service costs were “historically low;” and

• The ongoing disagreement between CPS Energy and ERCOT on retiring their 60-year-old gas plants.
